Hypothetically tweaking: Research shows questions can influence behavior, promote bias

Hypothetical questions can bias thought. This works by eliciting an already held opinion in general. An hypothetical question can help to connect the generally held pre-conception with a specific yet unrelated subject.

Hypothetically tweaking: Research shows questions can influence behavior, promote bias: if I introduce someone to new, hypothetical information about a certain politician being crooked, even though the information isn't true, the question will influence them over time because it matches their existing, negative beliefs about politicians," said Moore. "They'll become more negative about that politician and less likely to vote for him, and their attitude about politicians in general will become more negative."

Google Pitches Google Hangout With Full Page New York Times Ad

Why would Google buy and use ad space in the New York Times paper edition? Can't they reach the same people through their own online networks?

I'm trying to figure this out as I am currently trying to come up with media comparisons to sell AdWords products to my customers.

I was hoping to be able to say that AdWords can reach customers as well as traditional media can. I'm in doubt now.

SEO or AdWords or Offline - looking for advice

This is a great topic and question for the advertising world. What are the pros and cons to different modes of advertising?

SEO or AdWords or Offline - looking for advice: SEO or AdWords or Offline - looking for advice

I manage a website called SellYourCell. com. We buy used cell phones. We just took the site over and their has been NO advertising for years of any kind. Only 10% of people sell their old cell phones when they buy a new one so the challenge is to reach the 90% that don't and make them aware. Our competitors appear to be focusing on advertising for the 10% that do. Any ideas on how you would build awareness with the 90% of people who don't sell their cell phones when they get a new one? Thanks to you master marketers!

How much does it cost to make a billboard? And how much does it cost to advertise for 6 months or so? - Yahoo! Answers

Billboard ads can go anywhere from a few hundred a month up to thousands per month. Also there is an initial design and print fee for the panels.

The entry fee is steep but the actual CPM is just about the lowest in advertising.

How much does it cost to make a billboard? And how much does it cost to advertise for 6 months or so? - Yahoo! Answers: The smaller boards ran around $600 a month for rental. The large ones ran around $1,500 to $2,000 a month. You might also look into doing a six-month poster showing. This means you might have several posters that rotate to various locations over the six-month period. Often, outdoor companies run special rates on poster showings, so be sure to ask.

Municode - Search

It's interesting to note that as Louisiana gets more conservative it is also getting more restrictive on our rights.

For instance, the city of Kenner restricts freedom of speech, one of the main reasons for our country's fight for independence, by making it illegal to waive signs in public.

These hypocrites like to sling around slogans such as 'patriotism' and cherish songs like 'where at least I know I'm free' and yet when reality requires they actually practice those tenets they fail miserably.

The worst part is we allow them to do this to us.

We need to stop singing silly songs and live out the purpose of this country!

(c)

It shall be unlawful for any person to loiter, wave any signs or wear billboards on any public streets, servitude, or right-of-way, including any part of the street between the curb and lateral line of the roadway and the adjacent property line and medians.

N.O. cracks down on illegal signs | wwltv.com New Orleans: N.O. cracks down on illegal signs

The city is now sending a $10 removal invoice to any person or business listed on the illegal sign. If found guilty, additional fines of $25 to $50 could follow.

"The law has been very clear for a long time that these bandit signs that create lots of visual clutter, particularly in neighborhoods that have shown a lot of disinvestment in the past. They detract from the quality of life,” she said.

Free Hemlin Metairie Products if the Saints Win Super Bowl?

Hemline Metairie is wagering an interesting bet on the New Orleans Saints chance at winning this football season's Super Bowl.

The wager is that if the Saints win the 2012 Super Bowl championship game Hemline Metairie will refund you the price of items you purchased during their special promotion. More info about it at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=260054877359730

It's a creative and interesting way to arbitrage their products. If done right then everyone wins. The odds of the Saints winning the Super Bowl are about 12-1. That is, if you bet that the Saints will win the Super Bowl somebody should be willing to take the bet and pay you $12 for every $1 you bet. This means that Hemline could (I don't know if this is actually what they're doing or not -I'm just speculating) take a percentage of what they make on the promotion and place a bet on the Saints to win. Then, if the Saints do indeed win they can use the money they collect to cover what they'll be giving out in refunds to the customers who bought items during the promotion.

If the Saints lose then customers will not collect a refund but they will still have whatever products they bought.

It's a pretty cool idea if approached as fun way to buy products you want while keeping an eye on what's happening with the Saints.

Vacuum fruit fly catcher. : View Idea

Vacuum fruit fly catcher. : View Idea: Vacuum fruit fly catcher.

A small shop type vacuum contains a small amount of soapy water. The vacuum is activated periodically by a timer. The vacuum draws air through a hose attached to a container that has a series of small holes in the top. In the bottom of the container is a sponge soaked in wine or fruit juice. The fruit flies land on the bait sponge and collect there for a period until the timer starts the vacuum running for a few seconds. The flies can't fight the vacuum draw and are sucked into the soapy water and are killed. I've used this home made devise very successfully in my wine making area.

New Orleans Not 'linked In' On Social Networks? - WWL - AM870 | FM105.3 | News | Talk | Sports

New Orleans Not 'linked In' On Social Networks? - WWL - AM870 | FM105.3 | News | Talk | Sports: "New Orleans not 'linked in' on social networks?"

Recently both the state of Louisiana and New Orleans have racked up many, many positive rankings in various business polls, but there's one area that a recent index finds the city is seriously lacking.

New Orleans has been rated as one of the least socially connected on the internet, number 7 to be exact in the 'Least Social City' category.

The marketing database company NetProspex devised an index that goes into great detail about various details involving social media.
Check out NetProspex 'Ten Least Social Cities'

Loyola professor David Zemmels says the index doesn't take into account how well the metro area uses social media to warn and organize during severe weather and hurricanes. "I think New Orleans does well where it needs to, which is hurricane preparedness and those kind of areas. It doesn't do as well in business-to-business or person-to-person communication."

But he says, this is a place with a very strong social network, just not on the internet. "New Orleans already does a better job of that than most cities in the off-line world. New Orleans itself is a very well connected city in the off-line world; strong community ties, strong small business ties. Those are the things that are replaced by the electronic media."

But because New Orleans has some of the least engaged business-oriented social media users, Zemmels says local businesses could be leaving a lot of money on the table by not marketing better on social networks, although he notes even though they are free to use, in time-cost they can be rather expensive for businesses in the beginning.

Now I Know: Hey, Let's Crash Two Trains Together!

Publicity stunts can sometimes go too far:

Now I Know: Hey, Let's Crash Two Trains Together!: "A man by the name of William George Crush was the general passenger agent for the Katy, and he was charged with making sure that the railroad had enough passenger business to warrant its ongoing operation. Crush, seeking visibility, came up with an idea. Train wrecks, he observered, always seemed to attract large crowds -- so Crush decided to create a train wreck of his very own. "

Users are scattered all over the net and that's how you need to reach out to them, claims Google.

Interesting study conducted on behalf of Google that claims target audiences are too scattered to reach at any one website and it is more efficient to reach them by taking a more scattered approach, presumably by using the Google Display Network of websites.
